So I had a task to migrate all on-premise servers to the cloud (I will write a blog to share my experience soon), which I completed during the December holidays. After the migration, the next step was to remove decommissioned servers from the server room to crease some space.
So, for the past two weeks, I have been busy cleaning up a neglected server room, I know I’m not a technician but hey, I’m kind of a jack of all trades kind of guy and I’m sure most of you may be asking your self why not let a cleaner clean the server room, Please don’t do that mistake. I believe that only people who understand the infrastructure environment are the ones who can clean it properly without causing any interruptions.
But first things first let’s look at the importance of server room cleaning.
- Prevent server room spaghetti – Tangled cords are a service nightmare. Power lines can cause interference with network lines, prevent this by grouping like cables.
- Don’t let the dust settle – if the dust in the server room is not regularly removed or cleaned, it may cause the temperature for the equipment to rise.
